Memory – a diverse collective of cognitive capacities by which we retain information and past experiences. Unlike perception, memory contains past experiences and events that are not happening now; unlike pure imagination, memories are linked to events that have actually taken place. Yet, our memories are so closely linked with perceiving and imagining, intertwined in the acts of reasoning and decision making, and obscurely tangled in dreaming. And without a doubt, memories are a key aspect of our personal identity.
Today found us in a bookstore along Bukit Pasoh road. The Grassroots Book Room, which was first opened in 1995, has since reopened next to the New Majestic Hotel. Housing an extensive collection of mandarin books, this quaint and quiet book room is a rare and one of the most prominent of its kind in Singapore.
